Second, it exposes the intrinsic value of rhythm for the infant’s intersubjective development. To this end, first, it assumes that the infant’s intersubjective development involves changes in the infant’s behavior that go beyond those related to the transition from primary to secondary intersubjectivity. Against this background, the chapter establishes some reasonable relationships between the development of multisensory perception of rhythm and the intersubjective development of the infant. However, research conducted under such perspectives does not usually specify which particular perceptual abilities might be involved and which aspects of people’s behavior are directly perceived. From the perspective of embodied cognition and the second-person perspective, perception is assigned a leading role, highlighting it as the psychological process that makes social exchange possible. The chapter proposes rhythm as a paradigmatic example of the relationship between intersubjective development and the development of multisensory perception during the first year of life. ![]()
